Demir, who is originally from Yozgat, was born in Kırşehir in 1980. He completed his primary, secondary and sixth-form education in Kırıkkale. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Uludağ University (2002). He completed his master’s degree at the same university’s Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis entitled ‘The Faith of the Muqallid in the Maturidi School’ (2006), and his PhD at the Institute of Social Sciences at Cumhuriyet University with a thesis entitled ‘The Theological Method of Abu Ishaq Zahid al-Saffar’ at the Institute of Social Sciences, Cumhuriyet University (2014). He worked at the Presidency of Religious Affairs as an imam-khateeb, Qur’an course instructor, preacher and prison preacher (2003–2010). He subsequently served as a research assistant and lecturer at the Faculty of Theology, Cumhuriyet University (2011–2017). He carried out his postdoctoral research at the University of Nottingham between 2015 and 2016 and currently continues to serve as a lecturer in the Department of Kalām at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
