Editorial Mission

Oku Okut Press: Publication Policy and Editorial Mission

Oku Okut Press is a fully non-profit, open-access academic publishing house operated by the Oku Okut Association since 2021. The press is dedicated to advancing scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities by publishing peer-reviewed, high-quality monographs and edited volumes, freely accessible to readers worldwide.

Editorial Mission and Ethical Commitment
The editorial mission of Oku Okut Press is grounded in the principles of editorial independence, academic rigor, and ethical transparency. The press adheres to the international guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and implements a double-blind peer review policy for all scholarly submissions. Peer review is conducted by external reviewers with doctoral degrees and a strong publication record in the relevant field. All editorial board members serve voluntarily and are independent of publishing decisions for manuscripts they are associated with.

Evaluation Process and Review Structure
Every book manuscript undergoes a multi-stage assessment:

  1. Preliminary Editorial Screening and Plagiarism Check (via iThenticate)

  2. Double-Blind Peer Review by Two Independent Scholars

  3. Revision Process Based on Detailed Referee Reports

  4. Editorial Assessment by Series Editors

  5. Turkish and English Language Review

  6. Final Decision by the Editorial Board

  7. Professional Typesetting, DOI assignment, and Indexing

Translated works are reviewed by both subject-matter experts and professional language reviewers.

Conflict of Interest Policy
To ensure academic neutrality, editorial board members do not participate in the review or approval of manuscripts to which they have contributed. Such cases are managed by independent editors. Final decisions are made exclusively by board members with no authorship in the manuscript under review.

Open Access and Licensing
All books are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Content is freely accessible in PDF and EPUB formats without embargo periods. Metadata is disseminated via Crossref (DOI), OAI-PMH, and LOCKSS/CLOCKSS for long-term archiving.

No Author Fees – Sustainable Model
Oku Okut Press does not charge any fees for peer review or editorial services. After acceptance, authors may voluntarily contribute to cover technical services such as DOI registration, layout, or cover design. These contributions are modest (typically $100–$150) and do not affect publishing decisions.

Transparency and Reinvestment Policy
All revenue and support received—whether from the association, collaborators, or volunteers—is reinvested in infrastructure, metadata systems, and the publication of further scholarly books. Financial and editorial transparency is maintained through public reports issued by the Oku Okut Association.

Metadata and Indexing Alignment
Books are catalogued using global classification codes including BIC, BISAC, THEMA, Dewey, LC Classification, and Scopus ASJC Subject Areas. All publications include DOI, ISBN, ORCID, institutional affiliations (ROR), and are prepared in compliance with metadata standards required by Scopus, ProQuest, and DOAB.

In line with these principles, Oku Okut Press promotes a mission-driven, ethical, and academically robust model of open-access scholarly publishing that supports global accessibility, academic freedom, and bibliodiversity.
