Oku Okut Press is a fully non-profit, open access academic publisher. Established in 2021, the press is operated by the Oku Okut Association and is dedicated to disseminating high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly works in the social sciences and humanities — freely accessible to researchers and readers worldwide.

Oku Okut Press is a publishing initiative of the Oku Okut Association, a non-governmental organization operating in the public interest. The press does not engage in any commercial activity or profit-seeking operations. All funds and support received are reinvested into publishing processes, author services, and the development of open-access digital infrastructure.

No Fees for Peer Review and Editorial Processes

Voluntary Contributions Requested for Technical Services Only

Oku Okut Press does not charge authors for peer review or editorial processing. Accessibility and equity in publishing are central principles of our mission.

After peer review is complete and a manuscript is accepted, authors may be invited to make a voluntary contribution solely to help cover technical services (e.g., cover design, layout, DOI assignment):

• For members of Oku Okut Association: $100

• For non-members: $150

These contributions are not mandatory and do not influence publication decisions.

Sustainable Support Model

Our open access publishing activities are sustained through the following channels:

• Direct financial support from the Oku Okut Association

• Contributions from volunteer editors, reviewers, and language specialists

• Partnerships with universities, libraries, and civil society organizations

• Grants aimed at strengthening scholarly communication and digital infrastructure

Estimated Publishing Costs

Although authors are not charged, the publishing process incurs specific costs, which are financed by the association and volunteer contributions. An average academic book incurs the following approximate costs:

The association covers fixed infrastructure expenses, technical services, and the broader editorial process. All editorial and peer review services are provided on a voluntary basis.

Revenue Policy and Reinvestment Strategy

Oku Okut Press does not operate as a commercial enterprise. Any potential revenue from projects, collaborations, or institutional support is reinvested in:

• Publishing more peer-reviewed academic books

• Developing open access metadata and digital archiving systems

• Supporting early-career researchers and authors without institutional funding

• Organizing workshops, webinars, and symposia on open access publishing

Transparency and Accountability

Oku Okut Press is committed to transparency in all financial and administrative operations. Annual activity reports and financial summaries are publicly released by the Oku Okut Association. Publishing processes are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and are overseen by the Editorial Board.

Open Access and Licensing

All books are published as open access PDFs, freely available from the moment of publication.
